I must've heard it on my way back home on an FX where drivers usually tune to AM stations, While some tune to "ear friendly" stations like WRR 101.9, 101.1 Love radio, Yes FM and other stations that don't play music. Well so much for that, I got really touched with the idea of helping less fortunate children who cannot afford to go to school. So I told hunny about it, but the sad part was we ourselves cannot afford to sponsor a child. So I thought that maybe I could help the organization by letting other people know about them To let you know more about the org. Here's a little info about what they do: World Vision cares about the world's children and their future. We promote ways that break down the barriers to a child's total development. World Vision was born in the heart of evangelist Bob Pierce who had witnessed abject poverty while he was a missionary in Asia. World Vision has since evolved from providing the most basic needs of children like food, clothing and shelter, into addressing the root causes of poverty in their communities. Since 1950, World Vision has changed hundreds of communities in developing countries by helping the poorest of the poor grow food, obtain clean water, build homes, start businesses, and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. We are present in about 100 countries, transforming into an international partnership of autonomous World Vision national entities. World Vision began in the Philippines in 1957 through sponsorship of a handful children in three orphanages. Its development approach slowly changed into a wholistic development strategy that aids the transformation of not only the poor children but their families and communities as well. World Vision helps provide a wide range of opportunities for the children, their families and communities to improve their condition through various development programs and activities. You can also visit their page at www.worldvision.org.ph I also thought that maybe we can help them by putting one of those link back thingies on our sites. I'm not sure if they have it yet but maybe one of you guys who knows how to make one can make one for them. Wouldn't it be nice to have a link back button in our blogs for a cause? The other group that I also wanna be a part of Hands on Manila. You probably have heard this ad on the radio where a Lola says "Palimos po", a girl would give her a peso and the Lola would reply that she doesnt need the peso coin but some help on volunteer work. You can tell stories to children who has cancer, cook food for street children or attend to the elderly who have been abandoned by their families. I've already talked with our youth ministry and proposed this activity. Maybe we can drop by one weekend and offer an hour of volunteer work. I hope that posting about this orgs would serve its purpose. I mean right now, I still don't have the means to sponsor a child to go to school, or the luxury of time for volunteer work because I'm still trying to find a job, so for those of you guys who have the time and the means maybe an hour or 450 a month wouldn't really hurt. There's nothing more meaningful than giving a piece of our lives for others. So there, heal the world, make it a better place. and lets all pray for Michael Jackson who loves children so much he gets in bed with them. :) | posted by Jay at 9:06 AM |
